Burnside High School with a current roll of approximately 2500 students is amongst New Zealand’s largest schools and the largest outside the Auckland area.
It is also the largest School of the 50+ Canterbury Schools that Cobalt Security have installed security systems into.
In the 1990’s Cobalt Security identified a leading US security system manufacturer, Radionics, which at the time their product was a world leader in outstanding quality control and robust manufacturing. The technology was ahead of its time and extremely scalable, allowing the perfect solution for installation into New Zealand commercial properties and especially suited to schools of any size.
Burnside High School engaged Cobalt in 1995 to install an integrated security and fire system, throughout the entire school, with an excess of 250 Intruder detectors and 24 individual areas that school staff are able to access. The system was installed in hand with a fibre optic network.
Over the years Burnside High has gone through many changes, with new classroom blocks, Administration/Library and the Aurora Centre being built. Cobalt Security also installed the security systems for these new buildings. Cobalt Security also installed an Emergency Warning Information System school wide. The system has developed with its reliability and expandability, proving that the choice of quality security electronics was an investment with a system life span of 20 years plus.
The Radionics system is only recently progressively being replaced, with a view to the next 20 years. Burnside have chosen to follow on with the new Cobalt preferred product line ICT Protégé GX. Consideration of the server-based technology and open integration with intruder, Fire, CCTV, Lockdown and Access Control. Burnside High School are again ahead of its time and forward planning solutions for the entire campus, providing scale to expand security capabilities and maintaining a safe and stable learning environment for students.
